I don’t have much experience of VTT in the Alps to benchmark it on except a day in Val Ferret, Courmayeur. I’d put my technical skills at 1/5, climbing fitness 4/5 and commitment level high. We ascended in a bit of rain which made me nervous for the descent. The climb is quite serious, 800m from Vaujany and obviously more from the lake. Heading off from the top, the mist/cloud came in so we couldn’t see much. As a result it was a rather slow start with feet going down a lot. There certainly were a few rocks under the grass to watch out for and a few sections with rock making it a bit tight. So we walked a few short sections. Further down, I got into the rhythm of it and started to enjoy it more including the short sections from Vaujany down to the lake which are great fun. I definitely recommend the descent and Mark’s ratings give a good indication of what to expect.
